La Jolla California Real Estate

La Jolla, California, is a San Diego County resort community of about 40,000 residents.  Pronounced "la-HOY-ah" (which was translated from the Spanish word "La Joya", or "The Jewel").  La Jolla is known as the "Jewel by the Sea".  La Jolla is just north of  Pacific Beach and extends further north along the beautiful Southern California coastline to Torrey Pines State Reserve and Del Mar.  La Jolla California Real Estate encompasses several neighborhoods such as:  Bird Rock, Windansea, The Village of La Jolla (including "downtown La Jolla"), La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Farms, Torrey Pines, Mount Soledad, and La Jolla Village (including La Jolla Village Square).

For the most part, interstate 5 separates La Jolla California from the communities to the east.  With La Jolla California Real Estate West of I-5 being the most desiresable.  Yet, there are also some lovely La Jolla Homes and La Jolla Condo's east of I-5 around the University of California.  Commercial property east of I-5 and north of La Jolla Village Drive is also considered by most Residents to be part of the community of La Jolla CA.

La Jolla locals often refer to the "village" or "town" of La Jolla as if it were a separates town.  Yet, interestingly enough the official zip code of 92037 is for "La Jolla", not "San Diego" as it is for most communities within the City of San Diego.  This distinction sometimes confuses tourists and locals alike, into believing that La Jolla is a separate city.  La Jolla is a community of the City of San Diego.

With its Southern European feel, it's Mediterranean climate, palm-lined streets, large estate homes, and upscale atmosphere, La Jolla has truly established is reputation as being the Jewel of San Diego County.  Along Prospect Street you can find upscale retail shops, restaurants, and coffee houses.  Of course, you will also find the University of California there.  Much of La Jolla's charm stems from the presence of the ocean and Mount Soledad.  Narrow curvy roads follow the contours of Soledad and hundreds of homes overlooking the ocean are nestled on the slopes. The sandy beaches, dotting the coastline extend from the south to the north, are Windansea Beach, La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Beach and Tennis property, La Jolla Shores, Scripps, and Black's Beach (leading up to Torrey Pines State Reserve).
